The Five Favourites of… Ilse!

Yes, it is once again time for the most enjoyable moment of the month: the five favourites of…

This time, I asked my teammate Ilse to share her favourites with us. What could be better than getting to know each other better? Well, that certainly worked out! I discovered that Ilse’s boyfriend owns a wine shop in Scheveningen, called Henry II. How delightful is that?! So, if you’re looking for a lovely bottle of wine, you now know where to go. 😉

Naturally, Ilse’s favourite drink is wine, and it comes from her boyfriend’s shop. Where does she prefer to enjoy it? In sunny Sicily, Italy. A perfect place to savour a good glass of wine, surrounded by delicious food and warm weather. Who can blame her for that?

By the way, Ilse’s favourite dish is not what you might expect. No pizza, no pasta… Her absolute favourite is ramen, the Japanese noodle soup. Coincidentally, cooking is one of her favourite hobbies. So, Ilse, we look forward to the day when you treat us to this delightful soup!

As reading is one of my favourite pastimes, I was also very curious about Ilse’s favourite book. It turned out to be The Crow Road by Iain Banks, a book I wasn’t familiar with, but it sounds truly fascinating!

The story is set in Scotland and follows Prentice McHoan, a young man trying to solve the mysterious disappearance of his uncle Rory. Rory was in the process of writing a book called The Crow Road before he vanished without a trace eight years ago. During his quest for the truth, Prentice encounters various family secrets and personal conflicts.

The book is often praised for its profound themes, such as family, loss, and the search for meaning in life. As Prentice delves into his uncle’s papers, he not only discovers what happened to Rory but also gains new insights into his own life. The complex plotlines and nonlinear narrative style make this book a genuine challenge, but that’s precisely what makes it so intriguing.

And for those, like me, who enjoy books set in Scotland: that’s already a good enough reason for me to add it to my ever-growing reading list. Would you like to read the book as well? Click on our Bol.com link and support Sovicos with your purchase!

Finally, I asked Ilse about her favourite film, and I certainly wanted to share this answer with you: The Rocky Horror Picture Show! A cult classic from 1975 filled with eccentric characters, music, and a dose of humour. The story revolves around a young couple who experience car trouble near a mysterious castle full of extravagant figures, where they meet the flamboyant Dr. Frank N. Furter. A film that you absolutely must see!

Ilse, thank you so much for sharing your five favourites! And would you like to share your five favourites with us? If so, please send an email to Milene at redactie@sovicos.nl. Who knows, you might be in the spotlight next time! 😊
