It’s that magical time of year again: the nets are strung, the balls are ready, and the scent of sporting ambition is in the air… okay, maybe with a hint of sweat, but hey, that’s part of the fun. The new season at Sovicos has officially kicked off, and we can’t wait to see everyone back on the court!
The first drop-in sessions for both indoor and beach volleyball have already taken place, and the atmosphere was – as always – a delightful mix of enthusiastic leaps, awkward dives, and a touch of sore muscles. For anyone who thought the ball always goes neatly over the net: think again. But that’s what makes it fun, because at Sovicos, it’s all about enjoyment, challenge, and sharing those little victories (and sometimes epic fails) together.
And if that wasn’t enough action for one week, there are also practice matches scheduled. This coming Wednesday, everyone will have a chance to show off what they’ve been working on over the summer. Whether it’s masterful smashes or charming balls that accidentally go the wrong way, it’s set to be a spectacle.
The board isn’t sitting still either. Thursday will see a board meeting, where preparations for the AGM will be made. Spoiler: more details will follow soon, but for now, mark your calendars for Thursday 25 September, when we’ll come together to discuss all things Sovicos. After all, running a club is a bit like refereeing a volleyball match: you have to keep an eye on everything, but it helps to laugh at the chaos along the way.
On Saturday 13 September, the annual SovIntro Tournament is on the agenda. All members – young, old, new, and familiar – will be mixed up to play matches. Expect surprises, new friendships, and those classic moments when you wonder, “How on earth did that ball end up there?” Sign up here!
And for those who think sport is only about effort, we’ve scheduled a little relaxation too. Ahead of the first Volleyball Friday on 3 October, you can enjoy a lovely sports massage on 24 September. After all, those muscles need to be limber for the first matches – and a bit of self-care never hurt anyone.
