At Volleybalvereniging Sovicos, creating a safe and inclusive environment is one of our top priorities. Safe sports means not only treating each other with respect but also actively combating unwanted behavior, such as bullying and intimidation. This article highlights our behavioral norms, our values, and how we address these important issues within the club.
Our Norms and Values
At Sovicos, we adhere to several core values that form the foundation for our behavior:
- Respect & Safety: All members and visitors should treat each other with respect, both on and off the field. Creating a safe sporting environment is essential for everyone to feel at home and secure.
- Openness & Accessibility: We aim to be a club that is accessible to a wide range of people from the Hague community. Our policies and core values are transparent, and we encourage a culture of open communication and feedback.
- Engagement & Connection: We strive for a strong sense of connection among members through collaboration and joint activities. Building a strong “we-feeling” is important for our club’s success.
- Sporting Performance: While we support recreational sports, we also aim to achieve competitive ambitions with respect and a sporting attitude.
- Collaboration: Every member plays a role in keeping the club running. We also collaborate with schools and community organizations to positively impact the Hague community.
Dealing with Unwanted Behavior
Bullying, intimidation, abuse of power, and sexual harassment are unacceptable within our club. We take every report seriously and have established policies and procedures to address these issues. This includes:
- Confidential Contact Persons: Members can approach our confidential contact persons if they feel unsafe or experience unwanted behavior. They provide support and help find appropriate solutions.
- Code of Conduct: Our code of conduct clearly outlines how we interact as members. This applies to all members within the club; however, we cannot influence behavior outside of the club.
What You Can Do
As a member of Sovicos, you have the responsibility to contribute to a positive club culture. This means intervening when you witness unwanted behavior or if you are concerned about a fellow member. Don’t hesitate to reach out to our confidential contact persons or a board member.
