The Five Favourites of…

After a few quiet months, it’s finally time to kick off the “Five Favorites” again! Every month, we share the five favorites of a Sovicos member—a fun, casual way to get to know each other better. And who better to start with than Miriam from Dames 1?

Miriam has only been a member for a year, but she’s already an indispensable force both on and off the court. This year, I got to know her better during our beach volleyball training sessions. While she dominated at the net with her killer blocks, I was in the back, diving through the sand. We made a great team! Now, Miriam is back showcasing her talents with Dames 1, and I’m curious to learn more about what drives her.

Let’s start with her favorite travel destination. For Miriam, it’s the North, particularly Sweden. The beautiful forests and serene lakes draw her in, and I can easily imagine her enjoying the peace with a Swedish meatball in hand. But when it comes to food, her heart beats for something very different: Indian curry! From the tranquility of Swedish nature to a real explosion of flavors. Who doesn’t love a good curry?

And what does she drink with it? Not an exotic mango lassi, but a trusty Cola Zero—perfect to cool down the spice.

Of course, we can’t skip over her favorite book, because reading is Miriam’s favorite way to relax. I was curious about her literary tastes. “I love fantasy and romance the most,” she tells me. While she doesn’t have a specific favorite book, she’s currently captivated by A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara. I looked it up and found that LINDA describes the book as “addictive,” while NRC says it “pierces through your soul.” The story follows four college friends in New York and their complex friendship, particularly focusing on the mysterious Jude, who struggles with his past. Miriam says, “The book tells a very realistic story about someone battling mental health, and it’s beautifully written.” My interest is piqued, so who knows—I might borrow it once she’s finished. 😉

By the way, the author is also known for The People in the Trees.

Last but not least, what’s Miriam’s favorite animal? A deer! Now I completely understand why she loves Sweden so much—there are plenty of deer there to admire.

And that wraps up Miriam’s five favorites! It was fun getting to know her better, and I hope you enjoyed it too. Who’s next for the next round?
