Since then, we\u2019ve crossed paths on countless courts, with sand between our toes, sun in our eyes, and a hint of panic every time the ball just slips out of reach. So it seemed like the perfect moment to discover what lies behind Michael\u2019s strategic play, his sharp spikes, and that almost unnatural concentration of his.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Michael\u2019s favourite \u201cfilm\u201d is actually more of a series:&nbsp;<em>The Witcher<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>Naruto<\/em>, and&nbsp;<em>Arcane<\/em>. So if you ever see him vanish for an evening binge, know that it\u2019s not just lazing about \u2014 it\u2019s a serious expedition into worlds full of monsters, magic, and ninjas. And just like our taste in music, this is something we clearly have in common. I even binged the new season of&nbsp;<em>The Witcher<\/em>&nbsp;in a single day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Does Michael still read? A little. His favourite book tells a story of transformation: back in the day it was\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/partner.bol.com\/click\/click?p=2&amp;t=url&amp;s=1225302&amp;f=TXL&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bol.com%2Fnl%2Fnl%2Ff%2Fcalculus-made-easy%2F34215193%2F&amp;name=Calculus%20Made%20Easy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Calculus<\/a><\/em>\u00a0\u2014 when maths was exciting and numbers were a challenge rather than a source of stress. These days he\u2019s had enough of numbers and prefers stories like\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/partner.bol.com\/click\/click?p=2&amp;t=url&amp;s=1225302&amp;f=TXL&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bol.com%2Fnl%2Fnl%2Ff%2Falchemist%2F9300000174490031%2F&amp;name=Alchemist%2C%20Paulo%20Coelho\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Alchemist<\/a><\/em>, or manga, because sometimes reality needs to step aside for a bit of the fantastical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When it comes to food, we\u2019re clearly on the same page. I can honestly call Michael a true culinary adventurer: anything with rich flavours can captivate him. From hand-pulled noodles with coriander and spiced soups, to a crisp schiacciata stuffed with Italian ingredients, or the classic sweet-and-savoury combo of chicken &amp; waffles \u2014 invite him to a meal and it\u2019s a mini world tour for the taste buds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And drinks? He likes them smoky and spicy: margaritas with mezcal, salt, and chilli flakes are currently his favourite companion after a day of heroic volleyball feats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His favourite games? Two, actually: poker and&nbsp;<em>Final Fantasy<\/em>. Poker once had such a grip on him that he even quit studying to attend tournaments and receive coaching.&nbsp;<em>Final Fantasy<\/em>&nbsp;began on the first PlayStation, and since then he\u2019s played parts 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, and 13 \u2014 currently he\u2019s tackling part 16. Patience, strategy, and perseverance clearly aren\u2019t just strengths on the sand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Naturally, I also asked about his favourite country, and that\u2019s Malaysia: family, culture, food, buildings, people \u2014 it all comes together in a vibrant mix that speaks to him. And what does he take on his travels? His phone, of course \u2014 handy for practical matters and always ready for a bit of entertainment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In short, Michael is a combination of adventurous taste buds, strategic thinking, imaginative escapes, and a slight obsession with games.
